The Jeff Cooper Legacy Foundation

Our Mission

In order to preserve, protect and defend the principle of self-reliance and the individual right of self-defense as espoused by Jeff Cooper, the Foundation will provide scholarships for firearms training in the Cooper tradition as well as preserve his writings and his personal collections for posterity.

"Individual conduct in lethal confrontation is not something that is confined to any one locale or era, and if there are principles guiding its conduct--and I believe there are--those principles do not change according to geography, history, or sociological whim." -- from Principles of Personal Defense

"As our civilization urbanizes, and as more and more of our young people never set foot off the pavement, much less clean a fish, we can no longer take for granted that our youth naturally and automatically understand the traditions which gave us this country, and which must be maintained if we wish to keep it."-- from To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth

"Heroism is never futile, for it is a thing of the soul, demonstrating that man is more than just another animal. This is a truth that needs emphasis in the dingy modern era, when the race's most basic values are under attack. Honor is, at last, all we can take with us." -- from Another Country

" 'Disarmed'. That's the word. Taken aback, defeated, helpless, gelded, stopped. Not citizens then, but serfs." -- from Fireworks

"We are still free in America to study an art which many believe is essential to the survival of political liberty." -- from Shotluck

"It is interesting to differentiate between self-esteem and self-respect. As I see it, self-esteem is a sociological term which assumes to be a sort of inherent, or more properly inculcated (John, I don't know how to do italics, but inculcated is in italics) feeling of individual merit. Self-respect, on the other hand, must be earned, and a man respects himself because of what he knows himself to be and what he has proved he can do." -- from Shotluck

"This preoccupation with equality is another symptom of the degeneracy of The Age of the Common Man. In the first place it is an illusion, since men are not created equal, except in the political sense. Everyone is better or worse than someone else in a particular example of his capacities, and pretending that this is not so is simply silly. Excellence, not mediocrity, should be everyone's goal, and it is hard to think of anything, from gardening to crossword puzzles, at which someone may not excel." -- from Shotluck

"In my experience, self-control is the answer to flaws of character." -- from C Stories
